Golf Tournament
May 19, 2009

Tournament Beneficiary: Friends of the Family focuses on Maryland’s most vulnerable families -- young parents with infants and toddlers living in low-income communities. Our goal is to reach adolescent parents and others before they are in crisis and give them the parenting and life skills needed to raise healthy children and lead self-sufficient lives. Friends of the Family funds and monitors a network of 24 Family Support Centers throughout the State.
Friends of the Family targets high-risk families who are raising infants and toddlers through local Family Support Centers designed to build on parents’ own initiative. Our main job is to assure the quality of Centers through adequate funding and rigorous oversight. We spend about 95% of all the money we raise directly on the community-based programs. Our honors and results:
- Education: Graduate more students in Maryland with GEDs than any other comparable program.
- Pregnancy: Dramatic reduction of repeat pregnancy rates among active teens age 19 or under: fewer than 1.5% repeat pregnancies within one year versus 35% nationwide.
- Child development: 94% of infants and toddlers in our network have up-to-date immunizations versus 78% statewide.
- Parenting: 90% success rate in improving parenting behaviors and/or attitudes.
- Employment: 27% of participants arrive employed; 43% are employed a year later.
With your support, we can do even more!
